to the June 30, 2001 issue Do Exit Pops Really Work?
What do you think about windows that pop-up when someone leaves a site? Can they boost my marketing? Sincerely, Soon-to-be-poppin from St. Petersburg
Pop-up windows that appear when someone leaves a website are referred to as "exit pops." If used properly, exit pops can enhance your marketing. Before we dive in, I'd like to offer you an evaluation copy of Traffic 2000, which you can download while you are reading this. Just click to www.Traffic2000.com/download (this page will open in a new window) This is the best marketing course you'll find anywhere, it's won awards and is recommended by 33 (yes 33!) top ezine publishers. The download takes about 5 minutes, so start it now and by the time you get to the bottom of this webpage it will be downloaded. Back to our discussion on exit pops. It's important to note that when someone does decide to leave a website, they are mentally "done with it" and tend to immediately close any pop-up windows BEFORE the window's content is loaded and visible. The secret to success with exit pops is to have the window load in 2 seconds or less. Therefore most marketers do not use any graphics in their exit pops. You can see an example of an effective text-only exit pop here: http://eHits.com/AskVicki/063001/blankpage.html Just go to the above blank webpage, and once you leave the page you'll see the exit pop. Exit pops are an excellent way to promote someone's affiliate program, without having to stuff your website with banner ads. At some point your visitor will decide to leave your site, at that point since you're losing them anyway why not hit them with an exit pop. Think of it as a last ditch marketing tactic. (but one that works exceedingly well) A good affiliate program will arm it's resellers with effective marketing tools such as proven banners, ad copy, pop-ups, and exit pops. In most cases resellers are successful with affiliate programs that offer such tools. Examples of affiliate programs that offer knock-em-dead promotion tools include TrafficZilla.com (advertised on this page) and affiliate programs for any of Marlon Sanders' products. See you next week! Victoria Steele
