to the September 29, 2000 issue "Getting Well Listed on FFA Sites"
If used correctly, FFA sites can be a source of steady traffic to your website. Simply submitting your site to one single FFA site probably won't do much in the way of traffic to your site. But by "batch submitting" to thousands of FFA sites, well that's another story. This type of web marketing is quick, easy, and best of all free. Before we dive in, I'd like to offer you an evaluation copy of Traffic 2000, which you can download while you are reading this. Just click to www.Traffic2000.com/download (this page will open in a new window) This is the best marketing course you'll find anywhere, it's won awards and is recommended by 33 (yes 33!) top ezine publishers. The download takes about 5 minutes, so start it now and by the time you get to the bottom of this webpage it will be downloaded. Now back to our discussion on FFA marketing. First, some FFA basics. FFA sites allow you to submit your URL and a headline, for example:
When you submit to a FFA site, your URL and headline get added to the top of the list of URLs. And it remains on top, until someone else adds a listing, which pushes yours down one position. Eventually, your listing gets moved to the bottom of the list, and then bumped off the list. Your listing might stay on the FFA site for a few days or a week. On FFA sites which get many submissions, your listing might only stay on the site for a day or less. On a few very busy FFAs, you'll be on the site for less than an hour before your listing gets bumped down and off the list. (but don't be concerned, these are only a fraction of the thousands of FFA sites, and in a moment I'm going to explain how you can get on thousands of FFAs) One important thing to know is that the majority of the traffic to the FFA sites is from people visiting in order to post their own URL. But there's good news. The listings are on the same page as the submission form. That means that all listings are "in your face." Also, once someone submits their URL, they'll scan the page to make sure it got listed. In other words, your listing will be seen. If you have an effective attention-getting headline that results in click-throughs, you're in. And remember, keep in mind who is visiting the FFA sites, and why. Then gear your headlines to attract those type of visitors. In order to do well with FFA marketing, you'll need to do batch submissions. And you must do them regularly, because by the nature of FFA sites, your URL will eventually get bumped down and then off the list. There are free services and pay services which offer batch submissions. Use the search engines and search for the phrase ffa submitter or ffa blaster or ffa submission service. Get into the habit of doing regular daily submits. Just bookmark your favorite free FFA blaster site, one that submits to thousands of FFA sites. On your Windows desktop, create a text file containing your URL and headline. Then when you get to the FFA submitter site, just copy/paste your site info and you're done. The entire process, from going to the website to completion of your submission, can take less than a minute. Discipline yourself to do a submission several times each day. You may even want to configure your browser to make the FFA submitter site your start page. If you are capable of installing CGI programs on your server, you can purchase a script which will put your submissions on auto pilot. There are a few of these CGI scripts available, and they can be found using the search engines. Some pay services will automatically re-submit your website URL at regular intervals.
See you next week! Victoria Steele
